Sid Sriram partners with Warner Music for ‘Sivanar’—a devotional gem from the 14th century!

Sid Sriram, an Indian American singer-songwriter, has recently signed with American multinational record label Def Jam Recordings. His self-titled record, Sidharth, was created during the pandemic alongside veteran producer Ryan Olson and Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon. Sriram has been an established figure in the limelight for over a decade, dropping his first hit, “Adiye,” from 2013’s Tamil-language film Kadal.

Sid Sriram has unveiled a joint venture with Warner Music India to release a devotional track called “Sivanar,” dedicated to the Hindu God Murugan. The song draws from a 14th-century Tamil anthology called “Thiruppugazh,” written by poet Arunagirinathar. The song is set to release on music platforms on April 3.

Singer Sriram shared his inspiration for announcing the joint venture with a devotional track, stating that it was the song that made him fall in love with singing. He has performed “Sivanar” extensively throughout his career, including during his acclaimed Coachella set last year. The accompanying visual for the song was directed by Parasher Baruah and was filmed at the Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, during Thaipusam, a Hindu festival that draws over a million devotees.

Sid Sriram is widely known for his song “Srivallli” from the blockbuster film “Pushpa: The Rise,” composed by Devi Sri Prasad. He has joined forces with Warner Music India for an exciting new collaboration, with the first release under this partnership, titled “Sivanar,” set to debut on April 3.

The song features verses from the 14th-century poet Arunagirinathar’s “Thiruppugazh,” adding a deep spiritual essence to the composition. The music video was filmed at the iconic Batu Caves Murugan Temple in Kuala Lumpur during the Thaipusam festival, enhancing the devotional and cultural significance of the song.

Jay Mehta, Managing Director of Warner Music India, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that Sid Sriram’s ability to blend classical depth with contemporary appeal is unparalleled. With Sid Sriram’s signature soulful voice, traditional roots, and global appeal, “Sivanar” promises to be a unique and deeply moving musical experience.
